The Finishing Effects – Benefit’s They’re Real! Mascara Review

This unfortunately didn't suit me ladies! But do bear in mind that my eyes are sensitive so when it comes to Mascaras, I usually prefer going without - thus, my eye-lashes may have just rejected the foreign substance on them rather than this product itself!

This unfortunately didn’t suit me ladies! But do bear in mind that my eyes are sensitive so when it comes to Mascaras, I usually prefer going without – thus, my eye-lashes may have just rejected the foreign substance on them rather than this product itself!

Happy Wednesday beauties!

I hope you all are having a great week 🙂 I’ve been waiting to review Benefit’s They’re Real! mascara for many months now as it has only received rave reviews. I wanted to be certain that my experience (which is not the same as everyone’s) with the product was stable prior to commenting on it!

I wear mascara only a few times a week because I generally like faking the au naturale effect which is not possible with a mascara as it dolls one up immediately . I received this mascara back in 2013 with Benefit’s Coralista – you can read my review here. Although I grew addicted to Coralista and am also a big fan of Pore-fessional (read my review here), unfortunately I will not be buying this.

Why?

It is clumpy and sticks my lashes together. Even when I try separating them with a separate mascara wand, the eye-lashes largely continue to clump together. The ones that I am successfully able to separate have individual, unevenly-sized clumps on them which is unsightly (not sure why this happens).

I also suspect this of having contributed to my eye-lash quantity deterioration. Ofcourse, there could be other factors that led to my eye-lashes thinning out coincidentally at the time I began using They’re Real! – but I stopped using it 2 months ago and my eye-lashes are back to their original volume – I was too lazy to use any natural treatments during this time to promote recovery so I attribute it to not using They’re Real! Ofcourse, as I said, this is my opinion, and my eye-lash problem may not be related to this product at all.

Also, the clumpy appearance may just be a matter of me not being that good at mascara application. But I have used drug store brands in the past (Maybelline) which have worked beautifully and neatly on my lashes.

I have Lancome’s hyponse lying around ( I bought it for myself last month).  I am a little hesitant about opening it up and am thinking along the lines of gifting it to a regular mascara-wearer who it will suit for sure. After all, if  Benefit didn’t suit me, perhaps Lancome won’t either. Also, it is even pricier than They’re Real! so it would be heart-breaking to see it go to waste as well!

Let’s see what I decide 🙂 if all else fails, I have the trusty High Impact Mascara by Clinique (read my review here) to rely on 🙂

Oh and I am certain that the product I received (They’re Real!) was not expired – my friend got it from a reliable source overseas (Sephora).

In general, my advice is to be brave and try a tester at the store prior to purchase. I personally wouldn’t do this with a mascara as I would be scared of getting an eye infection.  But if you’re spending 23 USD ( I checked the price online :P) for a generally high turn-over product, then I think its’ better to be sure.

If you’re a They’re Real! fan, let me know whether you think I just had bad luck. At the end of the day, I did hit gold with Coralista and Pore-fessional.

Have a lovely rest-of-the-week beauties! And don’t forget to make-up well 🙂

Love,

Bad News Beauties – No Makeup will be “IN” during SS15!!!

If this is Vogue's idea of no make-up I think we'll be fine beauties - there is a crap load of blusher on this model!

If this is Vogue’s idea of no make-up I think we’ll be fine beauties – there is a crap load of blusher on this model!

*insert high-pitched shrieking here * Yes ladies, that horrible day is almost upon us. Make-up is not going to be in fashion anymore. Thanks to Marc Jacobs. And we know its’ official because Vogue says so.  But at least I gave you a warning in September when I alerted you to Vogue’s report on the absence of makeup on the models at the MJ NYFW so I hope that eased the shock 😛

So what do we do? I’m all for the au naturale look even in this trying time! For guidance on this go to my post about using Benefit’s Pore-fessional to fake an effortlessly naturale look here or Blush Me Pretty because you can pretend you’ve been eating healthy when you use Bobbi Brown’s Nectar Blush or Shimmer Bricks 🙂

Also, please note these so-called no-makeup models have crap-loads of blush on them. Let me investigate on this matter further, and report to you accordingly. But it definitely paves the way for applying the proposed cheats mentioned above.

On another note, I do think that suggests upping up our beauty game in other ways i.e. hair and skin care. My next post will be on what I am doing to pre-emptively battle this terrible trend 🙂 We have a few months to sort this out so let’s get to it!

Don’t fret, and continue making up well for the time-being 😛

Love,

Blush me Pretty II – Benefit’s Coralista Review

The final oomph tool you need to finish up your blush routine (day or night). This is flattering across brown skin-tones so order without fear!

The final oomph tool you need to finish up your blush routine (day or night). This is flattering across brown skin-tones so order without fear!

Hello beauties,

My very first blog-post was on blushers and highlighters I do not leave the house without, because when all else fails, blush keeps you pretty 🙂 hehehe. (you can read my pioneering posts here and here!).I am finally concluding my series on the must-have blushers that currently dominate my dressing table with Benefit’s Coralista.

This is the very first benefit product I ever received (thank you birthday 2013). Prior to this, I was a little judgy about benefit’s rather newish status in the world of internationally renowned cosmetics as its’ pricing was (is) comparable to the higher end brands – I just found out benefit has been around for quiteee a long time but I only heard about it a 2 years ago for the first time  (I think this is when it finally made it big internationally).

I actually kept this packed and unused for about 2 months (to re-gift) before giving in and using it out of desperation (I could not find my go-to blush at the time and was in a rush to go to a dinner). Since then I’ve gone on to be a Pore-fessional fan (click here for my review) and Oxygen Wow user (click here for my review on it).

So what was it about Coralista that made me give other Benefit products a chance?

Number One, it suits my skin tone perfectly (I am pale brown) even though at first sight, it looks too pearly to show on brown skin.

Its’ great across all brown skin-tones (guaranteed!)

Number Two, it gives me the glamorous finish that I have been missing all along – I use it over the Bobbi Brown Shimmer Blush  for an outstanding glow. It gives a very classy, rich finish which is perfect when you need to stand out of the crowd.

Btw, during the day I will only use this once over my blush to avoid a cakey look; if I am attempting to go au naturale, I use this as blush and brush it lightly over my nose and chin to give a bit of shine/color to my face.

Number Three – I got it for free. Hahah kidding, I just had to say that because it rhymed :). Anyways jokes aside, get this for yourself. It has commendable staying power (even in the sweaty months of July) and gives you a fake healthy glow (essential for pale girls!) that will make everyone around you happy 🙂

It is available for 28 USD – I have been using mine for over a year now and expect it to last for at least another 6 months (for a total of 18 months). I use it at least once everyday so there we go we end up with a real third reason – value for money!

Locally, only the fake version is available for full price so do not bother picking it up. Order it online or ask a friend or relative visiting to bring (or gift 🙂 ) it to you!

Have a blushy monday ladies! Makeup well until next time 🙂

Love,

WBVanity

Perfume Mania – Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet Review

The light and lovely Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet comes in a bottle embodying classic Dior Elegance :) I picked this one in lieu of the many other Miss Diors for a reason! Read on to find out :)

The light and lovely Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet comes in a bottle embodying classic Dior elegance 🙂 I picked this one in lieu of the many other Miss Diors for a reason! Read on to find out.

Hello ladies!

Hope you’re having a lovely week. I got back into my regular  exercise routine this week after an on/off  month because I was pretty sick and the recovery period took longer than expected! But I’m better than ever now so it was all worth it 🙂

I was about to put on my current perfume addiction (VIP Rose 212, click here for a review) before heading out for my run today but stopped myself – VIP Rose is limited edition (and expensive) so I want it to last as long as possible 😛 hehehe.  Also,  I’m one of those people who will use a perfume to death for a couple of weeks/months and end up not being able to smell it anymore unless insane amounts are applied.

From experience I know this ends up giving me – and any fellow human beings in the vicinity –  a killer headache! So, to prevent losing my olfactory appreciation of VIP Rose, what did I put on to smell good, but not overpower nature?

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet.

This is one of the few perfumes I picked and bought for myself way back in 2013 during a vacation (I usually drop hints for family members to avoid having to dish out on this type of beauty expense :P). I was very lucky to get a discount on it ( holiday sale! ) – I picked a 50 ml up for 55 USD –  the price is listed at 75 USD on Sephora. Wohoo for me 😛 But I am confused about something – I bought mine in the summer of 2013 whereas online it says it was launched in 2014. I am guessing it was either launched in 2014 in other parts of the world and/or the press release came after a very long time. Or perhaps the version that is being touted online is an updated edition of the one I own. I will investigate and update this post accordingly so do visit again for a clarification on this matter 🙂

Anyways, why did I pick blooming bouquet in lieu of the 100 other editions of Miss Dior they had lying around? It’s very different in terms of its softness to my regular scents (which are heavy, rich and long lasting). Its’ a fun, light scent that gives me a very nice, clean, breezy finish (like luxury washing powder). Its’ perfect for day-wear. It doesn’t have too much staying power but  I might just have grown immune to its’ already light smell. In our part of the world it is ideal for use in the winter – in the summer it gets too easily overpowered  by the Givenchies the other ladies wear  🙂

Regardless, the scent is lovely and outstanding in its unique way – if you don’t like fruity/floral tones stay away! Otherwise I strongly recommend it.

Oh and the bottle is a adorable – classic Dior luxury for your dressing table 🙂 So you must get one especially if you never got your hands on Miss Dior Cherie (like me) back in the day!

Have an awesome day lovelies! Don’t forget to Make up  (and scent up) well until next time  🙂

Love,

Keeping the Wrinkles Away – Clarins Sunscreen Care Milk Lotion Spray (SPF 50+) Review

Make sure you don't look like the wicked witch of the east by the time winter is over girls! Get your hands on Clarins Sunscreen Care Milk Lotion Spray before you head out for that brunch :)

Make sure you don’t look like the wicked witch of the east by the time winter is over girls! Get your hands on Clarins Sunscreen Care Milk Lotion Spray before you head out for that brunch 🙂

Hello ladies!

A lot of you are going to be spending your weekend brunching away in the open-air in this fantastically warm wintery weather. Although the sun isn’t as hot as it used to be – it is still evil enough to age us 😦 So to make sure you don’t end up looking like the wicked witch of the east by the time winter is over, don’t leave home without your sunblock in tow!

My recommendation this winter is Clarins’ Sunscreen Care Milk Lotion Spray in SPF 50 +. Most brands that offer SPF protection this high give me breakouts – except for Clinique (review coming up on that later this month :). Luckily, I’ve been using this  spray for over a year now without any complaints and a notable change in my skin – I am very evenly tanned since I have started using this. Also, I’m not as tanned as I could be given the amount of time I spend hiking in the sun at peak tanning hours (between 12 and 4 pm :).

It comes in a spray bottle which I like – I can keep it in your purse/ leave it in the car for use whenever needed.

My only complaint is that it gives a VERY oily finish – it hasn’t caused me any breakouts because it isn’t oily in its’ composition as such. But it gives too much shine on the face post-application. I often dab some of it off with tissue paper to ensure I don’t look like my face is melting off. But that is a problem I face in the summer – in winter its’ consistency works fine.

Oh and since this is ‘water and perspirant resistant’  you can use it for swimming sessions too 🙂 wohoo!

I paid a lot less than its’ listed online price when I bought this at a duty free (I paid around 20 to 25 USD if I’m not mistaken while online it is listed for 35 USD). Luckily, it is available locally (Islamabad) so make a rush for the mall before it runs out girls! You know how it is here – once its’ gone, you might not see it again for another year 😛

The local price is the equivalent of 40 USD (special sales tax for you 😉 But don’t worry about dishing out a little extra for this – the bottle is large and mine has lasted over a year and still has around 4 months of use left in it.

Have a great weekend ladies 🙂 stay young (at heart 🙂 )and make-up well until next time 🙂

Love,

WBVANITY

Glamming up Winter with Julep Nail-Care and Color

Glam up your winter look and stand out from the crowd with Julep’s exclusive nail-care and polish range 🙂 This is Rosa Amethyst from their birth-stone collection – currently at the top of my Julep wish-list!

Hello Ladies!

I had a pretty bad experience at a Spa during my last pedi (you can see my post here for a walk down memory lane but, thankfully my toe-nails are a OK now 🙂 ) I am, however, laying off spa mani/pedis for a few months and  learning how to ‘self mani and pedi-cate’  to make sure I look groomed during this difficult time!

Julep has come up with an awesome, easy-to-follow guide for winterizing nails and prepping them for nail color application which I am sharing you with you beauties below- all the products they have listed can be ordered on-line here. Don’t get carried away though, I know you’ll be wanting to get everything on the page 🙂 If you’re a beginner like me when it comes to doing your own mani/pedis, I’d say get your hands on the cuticle softener  and remover (18 USD but you only need to use minute quantities so it is good value for money) , cuticle pusher and buff. They are very easy to use and promise a salon-like finish to your nails.

You can stock up on the rest of the available items as your budget permits 🙂

Easy to follow step-by step guide for the busy bodies

A few months ago I received a Julep nail-polish (Kendra IT girl – 8 ml) from my friend  (alongwith a bunch of other things) for my birthday ( I love my friends, they know exactly what makes me happy :P) hehehe. I’m not a big fan of the color  as I am into pastels as of August this year but I cannot complain about anything else. I loved the bottle – it is different compared all the OPI and Essies I have so it looks totally adorable on my dressing table 🙂

Apart from that the texture of the nail-polish is different compared to what I am used to. It is more fluid and even-toned in terms of application. I can darken or lighten the shade depending on the occasion and my mood and don’t need to apply and reapply coats to get an even look on both hands.

It holds its’ fort long enough – I wash my hands a lot but its’ lasted a day without chipping (most manis I get show wear and tear within 48 hours). I did apply a top coat though so don’t forget to do that! I’ll keep you posted on its’ longevity and update this post if I have any complaints.

Finally, what won me over is that it contains oxygen technology that lets nails breathe and antioxidants from pure green coffee extract. This basically means you don’t have to worry about discolored or weakened/broken nails if you are one of those girls who can’t remember the last time they went au naturale on their hands. So you get nail beauty and care all-in-one 🙂 Perfect for busy beauties 😉

I recommend Julep nail-polishes very strongly as they are great value for money at 14 USD (don’t worry I checked the price online, didn’t ask my friend :P). I  will definitely be adding more of them to my nailpolish collection albeit in colors that I like. From their winter range, I have my eyes set on Kiki ( for use on the weekend and casual hangouts) and Shari (for office-wear). Those of you who are into the dark-nailed look this season will find your match in Sawyer and Ilsa.

Julep has something for everyone in their winter colors - I have my eyes set on Shari and Kiki; those of you who are into darker tones will find yourself in love with Sawyer and Ilsa!

But what I am totally in love with is their birth-stone collection. I  plan on getting my hands on Rosa- Amethyst (made for Aquarians like me :)) in the coming months because glittery nails look A-W-E-S-O-M-E in the dreariness of winter (especially during night-time events) – if you have any doubts see the cover photo for this post 🙂

Unfortunately, Julep is not available locally, but you can order it online  or ask friends and family visiting over the winter to bring it for you (I’ve started making my requests aleady ;). You do not have to worry about whether or not a nail-polish will suit your skin-tone, they have swatches on their website that show how each color will look on darker skin-tones (yay!).

Thats it for now ladies, if you have any questions, feel free to comment or inbox me. Until next time, take care and make-up well  🙂

Happy November Ladies!

Hope you had a spectacular halloween 🙂 I’ve been meaning to blog about my latest gift and am so glad I’m finally getting the time to do this – and the fact that I’m doing it on a Monday makes it even better 🙂

I was very very lucky to get Carolina Herrera’s 212 VIP Rosé as a belated birthday present last month. When I saw the box I was initially put off because I am really not a fan of rose scents. Thankfully, there is absolutely nothing rosy about this – it has a very strong, rich but sweet scent – think of a very exotic mixture of woody and fruity tones.

Basically, if you put this on, you will smell exactly like a very wealthy woman does 😛 only you’ll have spent less than a quarter of what rich women may spend mixing up multiple custom-made scents 😉 The bottle is nice, not mind-blowing or eye-catching, but the scent makes up for it all the way so don’t let aesthetics turn you off! Its’ left my Givenchies, Chanels and Diors (reviews on all coming up soon!) collecting dust on my dressing table because I am so addicted to this. I don’t feel special unless I put this on anymore 😦 hehehe.

Verdict – get it! and get it now, because like Marc Jacob’s Daisy Delight  (click on the link to read my review) – this is limited edition too.

I own it in a 50 ml bottle and was rude enough to ask the relative who got it for me how much she paid – it was 60 USD (duty-free). I hope you get an equally good price for this!

Have a spectacular week beauties 🙂 Until next time, make (and scent) up well!
