The Palette Inquisition – The Balm’s Balm Voyage Holiday Face Palette Review

Hello lovelies!

Welcome to my first-ever palette post courtesy The Balm! On a recent trip I picked this up on sale at a drugstore for an equivalent of 40 USD (originally listed for 60 USD at the store). Online it is available for 42 USD so it really wasn’t such a great bargain but I would’ve ended up spending 20 extra on this otherwise so I’m happy with the price I got!

The mix of colors on this palette is perfect – it has the right springy fun tones, all the neutrals and darks that promise to be your one-stop-shop for all types of day and night eye-makeup! In addition to 16 eyeshadows I also got 3 lip and cheek stains 🙂

I swatched it at the store and since I didn’t have the luxury of taking my sweet time to make a decision, I decided to purchase it, as the three eyeshadows I needed (torquise B-2 , white C-1 and dull gold D-3) were all available and the intensity of the colors seemed sufficient. Also, the cutesy package reminded me of benefit’s products so that was a key deciding factor!

Isn't it adorable?!

Isn’t it adorable?!

Unfortunately, once I got down to using the product (eyeshadows) I was disappointed. The colors for the majority of the set are indeed vibrant and can be built up, but the staying power is below fair. In my case, despite zero humidity, patches started forming within an hour and a half of application. I do have combination skin so that maybe a reason! Secondly, I did not use primer, but a concealer as a base. However, I never use primers on my lids and eyeshadows (lancome, chanel) hold their fort decently.

The lipstains are adorable, but again too dry for my liking. On the lips, they sink into the cracks (even if my pout is hydrated!) and looks unsightly. If I top it off with gloss it works. On the cheeks, again its too dry and I do not enjoy rubbing it mercilessly on my skin. However, the color is very strong so if that is what you are looking for, it makes sense to go for this. Also, it would’ve been great if they mixed some neutrals in with the reds and coral as all 3 stains give off very stark tones. Or perhaps they assume buyers would build up color as per their need but a pink tone would’ve been great regardless.

Overall, this palette did not suit me so I am on the hunt for a replacement! I think I may end up getting UD’s Vice – its a safe bet and is only 20 USD more than this product,. As for this, I have swatched it so I can’t give it away to someone else 😦  Guess this remains a decorative item on my dressing table along with a few other cutesy pieces 🙂

Oh, do bear in mind that this was my experience in the product, based on my skin-type and personal preferences. Your experience maybe completely different so do give it a shot, who knows it might work wonderfully for you!

That’s it for today ladies 🙂 Have a wonderful week and make-up well until next time!

Hello ladies!

Hope you’re having a lovely week. I got back into my regular  exercise routine this week after an on/off  month because I was pretty sick and the recovery period took longer than expected! But I’m better than ever now so it was all worth it 🙂

I was about to put on my current perfume addiction (VIP Rose 212, click here for a review) before heading out for my run today but stopped myself – VIP Rose is limited edition (and expensive) so I want it to last as long as possible 😛 hehehe.  Also,  I’m one of those people who will use a perfume to death for a couple of weeks/months and end up not being able to smell it anymore unless insane amounts are applied.

From experience I know this ends up giving me – and any fellow human beings in the vicinity –  a killer headache! So, to prevent losing my olfactory appreciation of VIP Rose, what did I put on to smell good, but not overpower nature?

Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet.

This is one of the few perfumes I picked and bought for myself way back in 2013 during a vacation (I usually drop hints for family members to avoid having to dish out on this type of beauty expense :P). I was very lucky to get a discount on it ( holiday sale! ) – I picked a 50 ml up for 55 USD –  the price is listed at 75 USD on Sephora. Wohoo for me 😛 But I am confused about something – I bought mine in the summer of 2013 whereas online it says it was launched in 2014. I am guessing it was either launched in 2014 in other parts of the world and/or the press release came after a very long time. Or perhaps the version that is being touted online is an updated edition of the one I own. I will investigate and update this post accordingly so do visit again for a clarification on this matter 🙂

Anyways, why did I pick blooming bouquet in lieu of the 100 other editions of Miss Dior they had lying around? It’s very different in terms of its softness to my regular scents (which are heavy, rich and long lasting). Its’ a fun, light scent that gives me a very nice, clean, breezy finish (like luxury washing powder). Its’ perfect for day-wear. It doesn’t have too much staying power but  I might just have grown immune to its’ already light smell. In our part of the world it is ideal for use in the winter – in the summer it gets too easily overpowered  by the Givenchies the other ladies wear  🙂

Regardless, the scent is lovely and outstanding in its unique way – if you don’t like fruity/floral tones stay away! Otherwise I strongly recommend it.

Oh and the bottle is a adorable – classic Dior luxury for your dressing table 🙂 So you must get one especially if you never got your hands on Miss Dior Cherie (like me) back in the day!

Have an awesome day lovelies! Don’t forget to Make up  (and scent up) well until next time  🙂

Spring Wonderland – Elie Saab Le Parfum Resort Collection (2015-limited edition) Review

A must have for this spring ladies, this one is all set to become a classic 🙂 Wonderful flowery, musky scent with exceptionally strong staying power. Love it!

Hello Lovelies!

I’m sorry for the slight gap in posting, but I have had a veryyyy busy month (a lot of those seem to be happening lately -_-). The good news is it didn’t stop me from getting my hands on a lot of the latest beauty must-haves. My fav out of the lot, because it is so springy, is Elie Saab’s Le Parfum from the Resort Collection 🙂

Even though I have OD’ed on perfumes and am good for another 2 years with the stock I have, I had to buy this when it was sprayed my way at the beauty counter of a duty free. Yeap, this is that good!

So why am I gaga over this? Having just been released at the end of Feb this year, it is one of Elie Saab’s very first limited edition products – as you may have guessed already, I am sucker for limited edition perfumes – I like my fragrances to stand out of the crowd, and what better way than through one that will be out of production in the future 😛

This one has a very outstanding luxurious flowery, musky scent – its definitely  one of those perfumes which will become a classic (like Chanel Number 5). It is very strong in terms of its staying power and presence, but is not overpowering – on the contrary it is pleasantly soft so if you are one of those people who get headaches with the heavy types but want a dominant scent, this is it for you!

It holds its’ fort all day long. If you spray it on clothes/scarves it leaves its trademark smell until you wash it out, which I love because the closet ends up smelling nice 😛 So 100 points for value for money on this at 80 USD. I got it on a special offer so it came with a free blue cosmetic bag in the same shade as the bottle (me loves!). At the duty free you can even pick up the 100 ml bottle for around a 100 USD (100 ml) –  otherwise it is listed for a 130 USD! So hurry up and ask a friend/relative who will be transiting though the major duty frees to pick this up for you 🙂
The only thing I’m not such a big fan of is the bottle – it comes across as a mix of Davidoff cool water, Versace bright crystal and my father’s aftershave bottles. But the scent and staying power make up for it so don’t let that turn you off. Also, it’ll add a little blue to your dressing table. Who could say no to that 🙂
I hope you enjoyed this post lovelies! Until next time, make-up well 🙂
