Vintage Vanity – Lancome Color Fan Eye Shadow Palette Review

One of my very first high end makeup kits - got me hooked from the word go!

One of my very first high end makeup kits – got me hooked from the word go!

Hi lovelies!

You may have figured I’m a fan of Lancome skincare by now! Interestingly, I was introduced to the company through its’ makeup range. I got the Lancome color fan palette for my birthday way back in 2010.

This was one of my first very first high end makeup kits so I hold it very close to my heart.ย Literally. I still have it ๐Ÿ˜›

It turned out to be one of those rare eyeshadow powder palettes that you could pick up 10 years from today and find it wearable! The color selection is great – it has all the shades that you need to dress ย your face up or (down) at any time of the day ๐Ÿ™‚

Th shadows have great pigmentation and and never creased. I used this without a primer and it stayed in place until I took it off even in the sweaty months of july! The look is slightly shimmery, but it is subtle enough to be worn during the daytime. The purple and filigree (top right) were my favorite – I even repurchased filigree separately for a comparatively hefty price of 20 USD three years ago! You can cake filigree on for the smokey eyed look, apply it with a thin liner brush for highlighting your inner lids/lower lash line or put one layer over your lids for work to give yourself a fresh look. If you’re feeling adventurous, put filigree on the inner lid and blend the purple in to cover your entire lid. It looks very high fashion ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didn’t get to use the other four shades much. There was absolutely no quality issue, it was just that the baby pink, green, blue were too light to be distinguishable on my skin tone. They all come across whitish so I used them for brow highlighting and face contouring. The brown on the other hand wasn’t dark enough to be used for smokey eyes and just gave me a sickish look ๐Ÿ˜› If you are fair skinned though, you don’t need to worry about it and feel free to buyย this with your eyes closed!

Despite a few shortcoming, I was (and still am) a fan of this palette. Its’ great value for money (right now it is listed for 50 USD), is packaged so adorably and the velvet pouch it comes with gives it the additional oomph factor ๐Ÿ™‚ I truly hope Lancome relaunches this with vibrant colors replacing the light tones for brown girls in the coming years!

You can order this online (its on sale almost everywhere!) for 20 USD. The only reason I hesitate repurchasing it is because it is not available on sephora or the other more reliable beauty suppliers so I am wondering if they are fake or expired! If you live in a part of the world where returns aren’t an issue though, you should definitely get this ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for now lovelies! ย Next week, I’ll be back with a Kiehls product review from my latest makeup hoarding session ๐Ÿ™‚ See you then!

Lots of Love,

My Favorite Mistake – Diorskin Nude Air Serum Review

The much talked about Nude Air Serum finally became mine! Read on to see if I'm rebuying it :)

The much talked about Nude Air Serum finally became mine! Read on to see if I’m rebuying it ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi Lovelies!

My inability to refrain myself from spending money on makeup I don’t really need has led me to quite a few fun purchases over the past months ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve already started reviewing the Kiehls products and hope you’ve found them useful! I’m moving onto the rest this week onwards as I am in a position to comment on them authoritatively :P.

Although my Clinique has been a go-to foundation for over 6 years now, I picked up Dior’s Nude Air serum because a little change in oneโ€™s regular look is a must every now and then ๐Ÿ™‚ I was in a rush so relied on the salesgirl completely to make the right recommendation for my skin tone.

She selected medium beige.

Unfortunately it did not turn out to be a right match for my undertone (yellow). But I do have a tricky complexion (pale wheatish) and this isn’t the first timeย this has happened to me so whatever.

This gives my face a geisha-ish effect which I do not like. To make the foundation more presentable I need to apply a lot of it on my neck and collarbones so that the contrast with my original skin tone is not so stark. Kudos is due to Dior here though because once I’m done blending my skin does not look grey or fakely white! If I wasn’t an “unfair” complexion promoter, I wouldve loved this ๐Ÿ˜›

In general, I’m upset about this because I don’t want to be wasting a relatively expensive product ( I had to pay around 60 USD for 1 oz) on body shading!

All this aside, Dior has still made an impression. The finish is very porcelain dollish. Coverage is definitely full and I do not need concealer to hide my blemish marks. Initially the watery texture was a turnoff but I got used to it. Also, true to its’ name it IS so light on the skin, it feels like I’m walking around with no foundation on. It definitely holds it fort (even in the heat) until makeup removal at the end of the day. I did however use a primer so don’t forget to do that! Also, it is commendable that it suited my combination skin type without causing breakouts given its’ serumy qualities ๐Ÿ˜›

I like its’ smell a lot too – it says I’m rich very loudly ๐Ÿ˜› hehehhe.ย Also, because of the texture, you need apply a very small amount on your face. If I didn’t have to waste this on my neck etc, this would easily last 18 months. Finally, one of its’ biggest pros is that it gives a contoured finish to the face just like Guerlain’s Lingerie de Peau ( I’ve reviewed itย here). Perfect for the busy ladies!

I’m not a big fan of the vial, it looks like my Kiehls skin tone corrector’s long last sister. If presentation was a bit more outstanding in line with Dior’s design philosophy, I would’ve proudly displayed it on the table for as long as I lived ๐Ÿ˜›

So in short, I would love this, had ย I gotten the right shade. But because I didn’t, I won’t be buying it again :/

I’m so glad I got to post today. Yay! Next up, Kiehls ๐Ÿ˜‰

Until then, makeup well beauties!

Tried and Tested Extravagance! Givenchy Parad’ Eyes Fluid Eye Liner Review

I adore the bottle and the extravagant color payoff!

I adore the bottle and the extravagant color payoff!

Hello lovelies!

I hope you’re enjoying the changing weather as much as I am ๐Ÿ™‚ As promised many months ago, I will delve deep into my dressing tables to give you the best and worst of the designer eyeliners I’ve tried!

I bought the Givenchy Parad’ Eyes Fluid Liner (#1 Dream in Black) a year and a half ago during an eye allergy. I wanted to change up my routine a bit, as I had been using using Clinique’s liquid liner since 2007!! As it turns out, I had to go back to Clinique ( and continue to use it this day :P)

Why? While the texture of Givenchy’s eye liner is fine and application was commendable – for instance I could make veryyy thin lines for day wear or the dramatic winged look for evening outings it did not stay on for long enough. After about 2 to 3 hours of application it would start coming off from the inner corners of my eyes. I did use this over primer, concealer and at times eyeshadows. However, I have combination skin so that may have contributed to the problem! Also, I had an eye allergy so bear in mind my eyes were probably more watery than the average eye. Nevertheless, Clinique and even drugstore brands that I tried (l’oreal) worked fine during this time.

However, this eyeliner gives one of the most dramatic color payoffs I have seen in black liners so it is perfect for the smokey eyed look! Just make sure you do not accidentally allow it to bleed into your eye when applying- it will burnnnn and you will have to redo your eyes from scratch!

For a price of 31 USD, I did not repurchase it because of the above reasons. But I absolutely adore the liner’s bottle and have kept it on my dressing table since ๐Ÿ™‚ So try this at the makeup counter before purchase beauties – ย if it doesn’t irritate your eyes, I would strongly recommend you purchase this product (Yeap, big Givenchy fan here ย ๐Ÿ™‚

Have you tried this? If yes, let me know if your experience varied! This is not available locally lovelies, so if you are curious, ring in a favor from an overseas relative/friend or pick it up on your next vacation ๐Ÿ™‚ You can find it at Sephora, but stock is limited so hurry!

Until next time, make up well beauties!

Lots of love,

Toner Time! Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal-Extract Toner Review

This will be a hit with the nature loving beautistas!

This will be a hit with the nature loving beautistas!

Hi Lovelies!

I got hooked onto toners when I was 13 – I wasn’t allowed to use makeup back then but was allowed to indulge in moisturizers, toners and facewashes ๐Ÿ˜› the good ol’ days ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve already reviewed my favorite toner(click here for myย pick!)ย but of late I’ve been experimenting a few others, including Kiehl’s Calendula Herbal Extract. I am looking to uproot my existing beauty routine so visited the Kiehl’s counter earlier this year for suggestions. My skin (combination) has been acting up lately, due to which I get red rashes on my face when I wake up. Sometimes they disappear within a couple of hours while at others they turn into a small white pustule that goes away within a day or so.

So whats the verdict?

I will not be repurchasing this – it has its’ pros, it did not exacerbate my skin which is a big deal!

However, I did not notice enough of an improvement in my skin to warrant its 20 USD price tag (this is for the smallest size btw, for a high turnover product like this, I generally pick up the largest bottles once I’m sure I will be using it regularly, ย which for this will cost 60 USD). While I did not experience any further breakouts while using this, it did not really work to I prefer toners that moisturize the skin significantly/sooth the texture which this didn’t (it doesn’t claim to do this, so its a case of personal preference for me :). It definitely did not dry my skin out btw, it just didn’t help it either in this respect! Finally, I think I’ve been corrupted by the perfume quality scents of my skin care products so the rather stringent smell from this toner did not appeal to my senses. It is au naturale so its’ an acquired taste ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s it for today beauties! I hope you found this useful ๐Ÿ™‚ and if your experience with this product has varied, let me know ๐Ÿ™‚

Until next time, makeup well ๐Ÿ™‚
